Westminster Council has denied claims its pilot scheme to extend loading and un-loading times for trucks has been delayed. It was initially thought the council's six-month pilot scheme to allow 40-minute kerbside deliveries after 11am for CVs over 3.5 tonnes, would start in July. However, this is now due to start in October.
Kevin Goad, head of parking at Westminster Council, says: "The pilot scheme for heavy goods vehicles was discussed in July as one of a range of measures for parking in the area. "We were not committed to do it in July and the pilot scheme will go ahead in October."
The trial only applies to larger delivery vehicles that have longer delivery time needs, and not vans, which still have only 20 minutes. All 32 boroughs in the capital eventually plan to allow deliveries to be made for up to 40 minutes instead of the current 20 minutes, provided continuous loading and unloading is taking place.
