Fixed penalties of £30 could be introduced for Certificate of Professional Compet-ence (CPC) offences, the Driving and Standards Agency (DSA) has revealed. The CPC is being introduced from September 2009 under the EU compulsory training directive.
The DSA says that fixed penalties could be given for offences such as failing to carry evidence of a valid CPC when driving a relevant vehicle. The police and VOSA will be able to access data held at DVLA to verify a driver's CPC status.
The Freight Transport Association says that it is unhappy about the need for "another card that drivers will have to carry". The Road Haulage Association says there are still concerns about the cost of the initiative.
