One of the country's biggest operators has been fined for the third time in recent years for overloading a truck, despite blaming its customer for the offence. Christian Salvesen Logistics was fined £400 with £148 costs by West Bromwich magistrates after admitting overloading a truck and trailer by 3,030kg. Rob Lees, prosecuting for Vosa , told the court that the offence was discovered during an inspection at Perry Barr off the M6 near Birmingham.

He said the driver had not been prosecuted because he had not loaded the pallets onto the vehicle, adding that Christian Salvesen had two previous convictions for overloading in recent years and had been fined £300 for each offence. Anton Balkitis, representing the firm, said Christian Salvesen did not know the vehicle had been overloaded because it had been loaded by its customer, Bostik, which accepted an error had been made.

He stressed that there had been no financial gain from the offence and reported that Bostik had been faxed by the company to make sure the error was not repeated.
