The Scottish Parliament was told last week that the country's operators are running cleaner trucks with each passing year. Andrew Haines, president of the Freight Transport Association (FTA), addressed the MSPs (members of the Scottish parliament) as he launched FTA Transport Policies for Scotland - a document detailing the needs and aspirations of Scottish operators.
Haines said operators do need to continue to cut greenhouse gas emissions, but he stressed that a start has already been made: "Our members have already prevented carbon emissions from rising despite still delivering the growing economy. "The next phase will actually see the beginnings of reducing emissions as a consequence of improved engine technology, fuels and overall efficiency."
The FTA has more than 1,700 Scottish members, who are served from its offices in Stirling.
