Volvo is making its factory-fit alcolock available as a special-order item for UK customers, but at about £1,000 per unit, demand is expected to be minimal. The device, now in its third generation, features a starter inhibitor.
The system has a hand-held remote unit, with a disposable mouthpiece and a display screen. If the driver's breath contains traces of alcohol, the central unit cuts the current to the starter motor, fuel pump or ignition system, and the truck will not start for an
hour.
