The elected representative of the Cemex ready-mix concrete drivers at the centre of a lengthy pay dispute with the firm says a one-day stoppage will take place this month. Mick Binns of MB Driver Services says the points he raised in the letter he sent Cemex more than a month ago were ignored. "Nothing has changed," he states.
Binns would not disclose the date of the planned action, but says it has "been confir-med amongst committees representing the drivers". Cemex says: "Cemex has received no direct threats of legal action, and over the past three weeks, has had constructive meetings with haulier clusters. Cemex will continue with these meetings over the next two months to resolve any outstanding issues.
"We are confident that any outstanding driver issues can be ironed out amicably, because any industrial action by hauliers would be a breach of contracts with Cemex."
