Whitby-based Wilf Noble Construction & Plant Hire has escaped with a formal warning from North Eastern traffic commissioner Tom Macartney after agreeing a number of undertakings. The firm pledged to have its maintenance systems independently audited twice a year, to employ a CPC-qualified transport manager, to give drivers annual refresher training, and to send one month's tachograph charts for outside analysis twice a year. It had been called before Macartney for vehicle maintenance concerns and tachograph problems.
At a resumed hearing, Gary Hodgson, representing the company, said that since the last hearing the transport manager had been replaced by a qualified fitter and driver, an engineering consultant had carried out an audit, drivers had received training and fitters were given refresher training. The Freight Transport Assoc-iation conducted tachograph training and drivers now photocopied all charts. Tachograph records were being sent out for analysis twice a year.
Managing director Nigel Henderson said it had been a sharp learning curve, as at the time of the first hearing he had a limited knowledge of O-licensing.
