Polish driver wins Scania Young Driver final

Wednesday 26 September 2007 12:00

Polish driver Marek Szerenos was crowned Scania's Young European Truck Driver of the Year at the competition's final in Sodertalje, Sweden. Szerenos, 34, beat 26 other finalists to drive away with a Scania truck valued at €100,000 in a tense two-day competition testing drivers' precision, manoeuvring, fuel economy, defect checking and cargo securing.

Second place went to Ireland's Tom Sharkey, 29, with 32-year-old Milan Jakubek of Slovakia taking third. The UK's William Herron scored an honourable joint sixth on points, pipped to the final knockout slot by a tiny margin on fuel economy.
