Traffic Commissioners to present free seminars

27 September 2007

Traffic Commissioners (TCs) are holding free seminars across the country for haulage operators to learn more about their role, maintain standards and work within the law. Although the announcement is aimed at new O-licence holders, senior TC Philip Brown says all operators are welcome to attend and refresh their knowledge. As well as talks from the TCs about their role, VOSA representatives will give presentations on testing and enforcement and a guest speaker from the Health & Safety Executive  will also attend.

Asked whether there are specific problems among new licence holders, Brown says: "It's not a question of ignorance, but [it helps] to go into the industry with your eyes open. It's an opportunity to liaise with the industry and promote what we do and it's a good opportunity for me to meet operators other than in the formal setting of a public inquiry."

The programme of seminars is:

  • 2 October: TC Tom Macartney, Village Hotel, Nottingham
  • 10 October: TC Joan Aitken, Macdonald Cadrona Golf and Country Club, Cadrona, Peebles
  • 16 October:TC Philip Brown, Thistle Hotel, Kings Road, Brighton
  • 29 October: TC Tom Macartney, Willerby Manor Hotel, Hull
  • 6 November: TC Joan Aitken, Quality Perth Hotel, Perth
