Downton buys its first Renaults

28 September 2007

Gloucestershire-based Downton Distribution, which previously operated a predominantly DAF and Volvo fleet, has commissioned its first Renaults. They are three 44-tonne plated Premiums, with 450hp engines and 6x2 chassis painted in the colours of pet supplies chain Pets at Home, one of Downton's larger contract customers. Its merchandise is delivered to more than 200 retail outlets nationwide.

Managing director Andrew Downton says the close proximity of Staffordshire Commercial Vehicles'  Renault dealership to Pets at Home's Stoke-on-Trent base for providing service support was the main reason for specifying the Premiums. He adds that early fuel returns suggest the Euro 4 Renaults, with their Volvo group engines and automated mechanical transmissions, are more than a match for rival marques on consumption, although it is too soon to quantify such comparisons.
