Cumbrian haulier Wm Armstrong (Longtown) has been awarded a major new milk haulage contract. Under the deal with West Lakes Dairy Park, due to start in October, the haulier will collect an initial half-a-million litres of milk a day from 140 farms across Cumbria. The agreement will create about 20 new jobs at Armstrong.
Jennifer Whyberd, Armstrong's managing director, says the company will re-introduce milk tankers to its fleet. She adds: "Working in partnership with West Lakes we have sourced second-hand tankers from all over the UK and engineers have been working round the clock fitting them with the latest Piper high-speed pumping and computer systems.
"I am delighted to be working with West Lakes Dairy Park and local farmers on this exciting new project."
