Foulger increases profit

04 October 2007

Foulger Transport is confident about its future prospects after announcing an increase in profit. Foulger recently opened a 24-hour freight consolidation centre for Norfolk County Council, which allows loads - predominantly those of retailers in the city - to be dropped off and consolidated into one vehicle for delivery to the city centre.

The initiative, part of an EU-funded project, is designed to cut truck movements and improve air quality in the centre of the city. Barry Germany, Foulger's  director, says: "We are moving forward in steps rather than leaps. "The new distribution centre is going really well and we already have four or five customers.

"We have a really good relationship with the council and we are confident that the centre will be an important part of our business for a long time." The deal was a big boost for the haulier, which, earlier this year, was forced to withdraw an application for an 18,000m2 warehouse near Thetford, Norfolk, due to fierce objections from local councils.

Pre-tax profit for the Norfolk-based contract haulage and warehousing company rose to £401,562 for the year to December 2006 from £255,512 in 2005. Operating profit also increased to £459,100 in 2006 from £311,448 in 2005. Net cash inflow from operating activities jumped to £962,820 from £733,415.
