The Department for Transport's latest LGV activity statistics show that freight moved by UK-registered vehicles increased by 2% between 2005 and 2006, to 152.7bn tonne-km. The number of vehicles of all nationalities travelling to mainland Europe grew by 3% in 2006 to 2,860. In 2005-06, 45% of vehicle operators had one vehicle and just 0.3% had fleets with more than 100.
