Objections mount against Brayton truck park plans

29 October 2007

A Yorkshire haulier wanting to park LGVs at his stables in Brayton says he fears he will not be granted planning permission after almost 30 residents objected. Paul Campey, who runs Connemara stables, has applied for a retrospective change of use of land to include the parking of two artics, in addition to horseriding, horseboxes and a trailer parking area. He says the LGVs will be more secure on the land, but local opposition has reached such levels that he is not optimistic permission will be  granted.

So far Selby District Council has received 28 letters of objection, with even the local parish council claiming the land is already being used to park many more trucks. A spokesman for Brayton Parish Council says: "Residents brought to us photographic evidence of many more vehicles using this site already. This is a residential area and not suitable for a lorry park."

A letter from local residents Patricia and David Gibson claims: "The proposed car park is already being used for this purpose, despite the lack of formal approval the retrospective granting of this permission would only encourage the practice of more and more vehicles and must not be allowed." Campey denies there will be more than two LGVs parked on the site and adds that if the application is refused he may appeal. A decision by Selby District Council is due by 12 November.
