Knowles ups profits

31 October 2007

Profit at Knowles Transport nudged upwards in 2006 and the firm is optimistic about its future success once new warehousing is completed by the end of the year. Managing director Tony Knowles says the company is building 400,000ft2 of extra warehousing at its site in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

"We are more than happy with the results, considering the current [economic] climate," says Knowles. "This year we are on a par with last [year], we're holding our own and when our new warehousing  is up and running, we will feel even better about our prospects," he adds.

Pre-tax profit for the year to December 2006 rose to £3.1m from £2.8m. Operating profit went up to £2.6m from £2.3m, and turnover rose to £24.2m from £23.9m in 2005. No dividends were issued in 2006. Knowles bought out the sha-res held by his brother Gerald over the course of the year - 50% of the company's shareholding - and is now the sole director.
