GAZ is gauging public reaction to the Russian-built Valdai, a 6.5-tonner it is considering selling in Europe through LDV dealers.
The example on its stand looked very different to the version we photographed at the Moscow Motor Show in September - having been 'westernised' by UK-based Ultramotive.
It now features a Maxus interior and a heavily modified front end. Under the bonnet of this concept vehicle was a Russian-built petrol engine, but any European offering is likely to be fitted with a Euro 5 VM-built diesel engine.
"It is certainly creating a lot of attention," says LDV marketing director Tony Lewis, "and so far all the comments have been positive. If it's a goer, then we could see it in the UK in the next 18 months to two years."
