MAN previews Euro 5 EGRs

01 November 2007
MAN showed examples of its Euro 5 EGR engines in Amsterdam. Commenting on the engines, which use a two-stage charging system with intermediate intercooling, MAN ERF UK chief executive Des Evans says: "In the UK, we have been consistently committed to the simplicity and economy of the EGR solution to Euro legislation.

"We have never wavered from our belief that it is clearly the best option for UK operators - despite having most other manufacturers against us. "We have said all along that MAN  would be ready well within the agreed European timetable with a Euro 5 EGR engine, and that has now happened."

But the engines will not be officially launched until September 2008, and will go into production in the spring of 2009. Euro 5 becomes mandatory in October 2009. Meanwhile, Scania's stand was dominated by its range of Euro 5 EGR trucks, some of which will be available early next year. The rest will be gradually rolled out between now and October 2009.
