Firms are being invited to submit bids to run the 2012 Lon-don Olympics logistics centre. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) says it is looking to receive tenders from organisations capable of "establishing and operating an off-site logistics centre" to "support and maximise the integration of the materials logistics strategy" for the construction of the Olympic Park in Stratford, London.
The centre, which will be based in East London, near the Olympic site, will be used to cross dock materials from road to water and/or rail, for pre-arrival security checks, vehicle marshalling and materials storage. An estimated 150 deliveries a day will enter the centre at peak times. The ODA says the contract may be extended beyond the construction phase, through the games themselves, and up to December 2013.
The deadline for expressions of interest and completed submissions is 26 November. Graeme McFaull, Wincanton chief executive, says: "We are taking a keen interest in how the Olympics project develops, be it in the areas of retail or construction."
