Palletline has commissioned the Freight Transport Association (FTA) to audit its entire membership. The pallet network's 67 member hauliers will be subjected to an FTA assessment on all aspects of their operation - including vehicle maintenance, disaster recovery, which includes accidents and IT breakdowns, and more Palletline specific criteria such as the correct use of the network's livery on vehicles.
Pilot audits among members will begin later this month, and Palletline managing director Kevin Buchanan pledges that all members will be audited by next February. Each member will be audited annually. Members that are judged not to be up to the expected standard will have an improvement plan put in place by the network's internal quality team.
Buchanan says the move opens Palletline members up to independent accreditation. "We wanted something that looked at more than the process of moving freight - from somebody specialising in the transport sector," he says. Palletline is funding the audits centrally.
