Speedy Hire has become the seventh firm to run Modec electric vans, after announcing that four of the vehicles will join its London-based fleet. The tool and equipment hire company, which was heavily involved in the development of the van, says more may follow in 2008. Speedy Hire has reduced its CO2 emissions by 14% over the past five years.
Meanwhile, A-Plant has opted for Modec's competitor Smith Electric Vehicles, taking delivery of an Edison 3.5-tonner. Director of transport Shaun Winstanley says: "Electric vehicles have the potential to significantly lower the environmental impact of our equipment deliveries and collections, while also benefiting our bottom line."
