DfT: no plans for LHV trials in UK

29 November 2007

Reports that longer heavier vehicles (LHVs) will be tested on UK roads next year have been played down by the Department for Transport (DfT). The DfT reacted sharply to reports in The Times and the Daily Telegraph, which said the trial of LHVs was being considered in the wake of a study by Heriot-Watt University and TRL into potential benefits.

A spokeswoman says: "The stories are completely speculative and we have no plans to allow LHVs. We haven't received the study yet and any implication  that a trial will follow it is just wrong." The DfT aims to publish the final report in February.
