Tesco is one of only a handful of UK customers to so far trial one of Thermo King's cryogenic fridges. The unit, which has been fitted to a CNG-powered Mercedes-Benz Econic, is powered by liquid CO2.
This makes it cleaner and considerably quieter than a diesel-powered equivalent. It is being used to deliver to some Tesco stores in London. Cryogenic fridges are, however, proving more popular elsewhere in Europe, particularly in Sweden.
