Kögel says its decision to manufacture its own trailer axles has not only helped it to reduce lead times, but has proved a popular choice with its customers. More than 20% are currently specifying them in favour of established brands.
Production of the TRAX axle only started in July, and already more than 1,000 units have been sold. "It hasn't been hard to sell them," explains a Kögel spokesman. "We say you can have one of these now, or one of those [established brands] later." The axle
is a collaboration with Arvin Meritor, and uses many of the same parts that feature in Renault and Volvo truck axles.
