EU divides up Galileo contracts

06 December 2007

The European Union Council of Ministers has decided how the contracts for building, launching and operating the Galileo global positioning service will be divided up among the various EU countries. This follows approval to spend an additional €2.4bn (£1.7bn) to create the satellite network.

The two main control centres will be in Italy and Germany, disappointing Spain, which had wanted to host one.
