When Manchester-based civil engineering group Excalon won a recent construction contract, it needed to commission 12 new vehicles in a hurry. Facing extended lead times for many marques, it turned to LC Vehicle Hire, which was able to supply, within two months: 11 ready-bodied and equipped tippers - six Hino eight-wheelers and five Daf LF 7.5-tonners plus a Daf beaver-tailed plant-carrying six-wheeler.
All the bodies are Thom-psons' all-steel Loadmasters. Fitted with Binotto underbody tipping gear, as well as the HMS 1244 grab-loader cranes on the Hino 8x4 chassis, the 13m3 bodies were installed at Thompsons' Blackburn factory, where the vehicles were also painted and sign-written in Excalon colours.
The Daf 75CF six-wheeler's beaver-tail body was built by Thompsons' sister company Charlton, in combination with a front-mounted Palfinger lorry-loader crane.
