Following its move earlier this year into the supply of ready-bodied chassis, Scania has extended its mobile service organisation in the UK. It is designed to cover the repair and maintenance - at operator depots, or even at the roadside - as well as the initial installation of a range of ancillary vehicle equipment. An additional 70 mobile engineers are being recruited, 25 by factory-owned Scania dealerships and 45 by independent franchises.
Each of the new engineers has a VW Crafter van equipped with tools and a limited supply of parts to deal with problems relating to on-board installations, such as tail-lifts, refrigeration units and trailer components. Scania says tipping gear and other hydraulics will be added to the scope of the service in due course.
