Eight foreign trucks were issued with immediate prohibitions during roadside checks in mid Wales. Dyfed Powys police, Vosa, Defra, HM Revenue and Customs, the DVLA, Immigration and Trading Standards checked 87 vehicles 12 further vehicles were reported for offences including brake defects. Sgt Andy Reed from Dyfed Powys police roads policing unit says:
"Foreign registered lorries and drivers have become a serious cause for concern to police and Vosa nationally regarding the condition of the vehicles and the drivers' failure to take adequate rest periods. As a result, the force co-ordinated this operation. We are committed to ensuring compliance by foreign transport companies in relation to maintenance of their vehicles and to ensure their drivers take adequate rest periods in order to minimise the risk and collisions and serious injury to other road users."
