As MT went to press, pressure group Transaction 2007 announced its plans for protest action this weekend, echoing the action that took place spontaneously in 2000. "A date of Saturday 15 December at 10:00am has been decided for protest action. This action will be initiated at a refinery or storage depot somewhere near you," says a statement on the group's website.
Transaction 2007 will not provide further comment, but its statement emphasises that the protest will be legal. A meeting held last week in the North-East is understood to be where the plans were drawn up. Senior traffic commissioner Philip Brown says operators engaging in illegal protest action will be brought to the TCs¹ attention by the enforcement authorities.
Last week the Road Haulage Association issued a statement distancing itself from the group and its activities. Its weekly monitor of bulk diesel prices has seen a fall for the first time in 15 weeks, by 1.38p per litre from 90.3p to 88.65p a litre.
