Iveco's Euro 6 engines will avoid penaltyIveco is confident that its Euro 6 engines will not have a fuel penalty, despite the fact that they will have to combine SCR with EGR. Ken Moore, Iveco's technical communications manager, explains that ordinarily, adding EGR to the equation would have a detrimental effect on fuel consumption, but Iveco has developed a way around this.
He says it is currently trialling an engine with double-stage turbo-charging and an innovative auxiliary shutdown feature - both of which could well be incorporated into its Euro 6 engines. The engine automatically switches off the air compressor, steering pump, fan and other auxiliary equipment when they are not needed. "This is definitely the direction that we see engines going in the future," says Moore.
