Driver petitions for speed limit increase

08 January 2008

A truck driver has started a petition on the Prime Minister's website asking that the speed limit for trucks on some of the UK's major roads be raised from 40mph to 50mph. Pete Milton says the 40mph speed limit on A-roads makes them more dangerous because other drivers try to overtake when it is not safe to do so.

He says: "I'm fed up with suicide pilots overtaking the vehicle I drive, a wagon and drag, because I'm restricted to the 40mph limit. The limit is the largest reason for the stupidity  shown by everyone who drives on the road trying to overtake in the most insane places." Milton's petition will remain on the website until 22 June.
