South Gloucestershire Council has denied a U-turn over plans for a 7.5-tonne CV limit in Yate instead it says it is "considering the options".
Residents in Yate have been campaigned for LGVs to be banned from Station Road in the town because of the danger caused by traffic volumes and pollution levels. Objections came from the police, who felt it would be too difficult to enforce and from parish councils in surrounding villages, who were worried about the displacement of traffic to their street.
Yate town councillors believe the plan has been shelved but a spokesman for South Gloucestershire Council says: "A proposal was raised at the Frome Vale Area (Yate) Forum meeting to impose a 7.5-tonne weight restriction on heavy goods vehicles using A432 Station Road, Yate. A report on the proposal is presently being considered and a final decision will be made shortly."
