Cost control boosts Downton profits

Gloucestershire firm CM Downton says firm cost-control measures have contributed to a healthy rise in profit. Pre-tax profit for the year to June 2007 rose sharply to £1.7m from £738,098 in the previous 12 months. Operating profit shot up to £1.6m from £749,356.

Turnover was £35.7m - up from £32.9m. Andrew Downton, managing director, says: "We have concentrated on cost control and focused heavily on individual contract-by-contract profitability. "We are confident of maintaining continued  profitable growth and are currently looking at acquisitions as part of our growth strategy."
