Leading transport industry figures have given evidence to an influential House of Commons committee. Academics and representatives from unions, trade associations and businesses last week made submissions to the Parliamentary Transport Committee's ongoing inquiry into freight transport.
The committee may use the evidence it gathers to push the Department for Transport to adopt an integrated freight plan for the UK.
Roger King, RHA chief executive, told the committee the industry would welcome experiments with longer, heavier vehicles (LHVs). Sharon Davies, director of corporate affairs at DHL, said freight firms would like more government investment in road access to airports.
