Albion Chemicals replaces fleet with Volvos

28 January 2008

Albion Chemicals has finally converted its fleet to all-Volvo with the recent purchase of 16 Euro-4 FM tractors with Globetrotter cab. Colin Woodward, fleet engineer and facilities manager, cites fuel economy, back-up and drivers preference behind the purchase. "Along with pleasing MPG results, and an exceptional back-up service, our drivers have been one of the major influences in converting our fleet to all-Volvo.

"The majority of our drivers enjoy driving Volvo vehicles and didn’t want  us to purchase another marque. Over the past two years we have built an exceptional working relationship with Thomas Hardie Commercials. "We work very closely with Thomas Hardie’s sales, service, and aftermarket departments to ensure our vehicles consistently operate at optimum levels."

The 32-strong FM480, 6x2 trucks with I-Shift delivers industrial strength chlor-alkalis, sulphuric acid, chlorine and sodium hypochlorite products out of its 14 depots "making 50,000 road tanker deliveries of a million tonnes of product" annually.

Similar to the rest of Albion Chemicals fleet, the company’s latest batch of 16 Volvo FM tractors are all 480bhp, 13-litre, 6x2 tractor units plated for 44 tonnes GCW, with Globetrotter cab in ‘Comfort’ trim. The trucks were purchased on five-year repair and maintenance contracts.
