The deputy traffic commissioner for the Eastern region has ignored objections from a local authority and granted O-licences to two haulage companies using a popular lorry park as an operating centre.
In what has been described as an "extraord-inary case" DTC Mary Kane says she is satisfied that the Orwell Crossing Lorry Park in Suffolk is a suitable location for K&M (Ireland) and PC Transport to use and adds that objections raised by Suffolk Coastal District Council have not been substantiated.
K&M (Ireland) applied for a standard international licence for 12 vehicles and 12 trailers last July. PC Transport applied for a licence for two vehicles and two trailers. Both Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council objected to the applications, citing planning permission restrictions and suitability of the A14 lorry park as an operating centre.
