The boss of troubled Scottish haulage operator Caledonian Express had set up a new transport business and applied for an operators' licence before Caledonian went into administration, MT can reveal.
Companies House documents show that Caledonian director Alan Nixon set up a new firm called Northfreight on 7 December last year. The firm has applied for an O-licence to run from Caledonian's address.Insolvency practitioners Armstrong Watson said that a notice of intention to appoint administrators was lodged on 23 January, with the firm expected to be placed in administration by 6 February.
Caledonian also faces an employment tribunal this Friday (8 February) over the dismissal of Scottish sales manager Arlene McArthur, who claims she was dismissed without the two months' notice required by her contract she also claims unpaid wages. Alan Nixon was unavailable to comment as MT went to press.
