Daf will boost production levels at Leyland next month, but operators hoping this announcement will shorten their wait for new trucks will be disappointed. The additional 3,500 trucks that will roll out of the Lancashire plant have already been factored into projected delivery times, so CFs and XFs ordered now will still not arrive until 2009.
"This increase protects the UK market," says Daf marketing director Tony Pain. "Leyland builds 100% of everything we sell in the UK, which means truck supply is firmly in our control. It also frees up capacity in Eindhoven," says Pain. This is the third time Daf has stepped-up production at Leyland in the past six months, and output is now 50% up on its pre-September 2007 levels.
