Dentressangle outlines environmental initiatives

13 February 2008

Norbert Dentressangle believes firms can find easy ways of becoming greener while still making a profit. Stewart Oades, group chief executive at Christian Salvesen - now part of Norbert Dentressangle - told delegates at the London conference Carbon Footprint Management in the Supply Chain, that firms could set energy and vehicle fuel consumption targets, as well as introduce technology, such as rainwater harvesting, at new sites.

Oades said "Companies must ask themselves: what is the best  carbon reduction strategy we can introduce while still achieving our profit objectives?" He added that the Norbert Dentressangle and Christian Salvesen integration programme was currently going "very well".

At the conference, Alan McKinnon, director of the logistics research centre at Heriot-Watt University, said carbon mitigation was not simply another short-term fad, but "an enduring managerial priority". He added: "Transport and logistics will eventually be included in emissions trading schemes. "The ability to measure and manage carbon emissions will also become major criteria in the selection of suppliers and logistics service providers."
