Worthington pleased with growth

15 February 2008

Directors at distribution and warehousing company AK Worthington say they are pleased with its 11% turnover growth last year, although driver costs hit profit. For the trading period ending 30 June 2007, turnover was almost £9m, compared with £8.1m the year before. Pre-tax profit dropped £58,000 to £142,000.

The company, which covers the UK and Ireland with a base in Manchester, intends to boost its warehousing further over the coming months, as well as expanding its fleet. The company  says: "Driver costs and fleet operating costs have increased, but continued improvements in utilisation have reduced the adverse effects of the cost increases, which resulted in a gross margin of 18.2%."
