Centrica has taken delivery of the first of 723 Ford Transits, which are being delivered at the rate of 30 per week. The order is for a mix of 638 medium-wheelbase , medium-roof panel vans and 85 short-wheelbase, low-roof models. The smaller ones will be used by British Gas service engineers, while the larger ones will be used to carry plant and tools for central heating installation engineers.
British Gas fleet support manager Martin Lock says: "The Ford Transit was the best cost option for our business. It's popular with the engineers and we have a long-standing relationship with Ford that works well."
The vans are being leased though Hitachi Capital and Lombard, and are supplied on five-year 60,000-mile contracts.
