Skills for Logistics (SfL) has again urged transport firms to make use of government training funds. The organisation, which launched its Skills Pay campaign in January, says logistics employers have the opportunity to bid for £280m of funding that's been made available for NVQs and Skills for Life training.
SfL says the logistics industry received only 2% of Learning and Skills Council funding for work-based learning in 2005/06, compared with 19% for engineering and manufacturing and 13% for construction. Dr Mick Jackson, operations director at SfL, says: "If we don't take up our fair share, the money will still be spent, but in other sectors."
