DSV buys Roadferry

04 March 2008

Danish global logistics and supply chain company DSV expects there to be some redundancies after its purchase Roadferry for an undisclosed sum. Rene Olesen, UK managing director at DSV Road, says any redundancies would  be in administrative and clerical roles and it was too early to say how many people would be affected.

Olesen tells CM that DSV was considering how to ramp up its UK and Ireland operations when it received a prospectus for Roadferry from its parent Peel Ports Group. "We had talked about acquiring and Roadferry had been one of the names on the list. Then along comes the opportunity.

"Roadferry is one of the leading players in the UK in terms of volumes between the UK and Ireland, where DSV was a much smaller operation." He adds Roadferry would now operate under the DSV brand.

Peel Ports chief executive Stephen Baxter said the sale was in line with the group's strategy of focusing on expansion of its prime business sector. "The sale of Roadferry reflects Peel's commitment to growing our core business as operator of Britain's second largest ports group," he said.

Roadferry was  acquired in 2000 by the Mersey Docks Group which became part of Peel Ports Group in 2005.
