UK Mail has called for radical changes in the way Royal Mail is operated. The firm commissioned a report from economic consultant David Stubbs of Europe Economics, recommends the creation of two accountable businesses, operating independently with distinct targets, objectives and incentives.
A new business unit - Royal Mail Sales - would deal with customers, and contain existing retail sales, marketing and product development. Alongside it would be Royal Mail Network, responsible for the operational delivery of postal services. The report is UK Mail's contribution to the ongoing consultation on possible business models for Royal Mail.
Guy Buswell, chief executive of UK Mail, says: "We believe that this report proposes a radical and much-needed change, which will instil a new commercial outlook to the benefit of the mail industry as a whole, customers, competition and Royal Mail itself." UK Mail is part of the Business Post Group and is the largest independent integrated postal operator in the UK.
