Bulmers Logistics has terminated the contracts of 23 drivers in Teesport and Hull but plans to recruit about 35 more in Ipswich and Immingham. The operator says this is in response to changing demand at the ports.
Managing director Jonathan Bulmer says: "There has been a general slowdown with a particular piece of business we were doing at Teesport and Hull. As a result we have terminated the contracts of 23 drivers who have been with us for less than a year."
However, business at Ipswich and Immingham is on the increase and so Bulmers plans to recruit 35-40 drivers in those locations in the coming weeks. "Because of the distances involved we were unable to transfer drivers between the ports," he adds. Bulmer also says the company is expecting to win two one-off pieces of business in the coming weeks.
