Kuehne+Nagel has formalised its relationship with Pall-Ex. K+N chief executive, North-West Europe, Peter Ulber says the two have formed a "more strategic partnership".The multi-year agreement means K+N's European groupage customers get access to Pall-Ex's UK network, while Pall-Ex can offer its customers a link into K+N's European network (linking 38 countries via one central and seven regional hubs).
Pall-Ex chief executive Hilary Devey says: "Just like K+N, Pall-Ex sets the standards that others strive to follow. Europe represents a major opportunity for development." Pall-Ex commercial director Tony Mellor adds: "This is a good move for our members." Neither party has revealed specific targets or expectations for the relationship. Pall-Ex's existing relationship with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is under discussion.
Meanwhile, K+N will open a 500,000ft2, multi-user super-shed in Northampton later this year. Ulber says this will not lead to the closure of existing facilities as the shed will service an as-yet un-named major new contract win. The firm has also opened a cool chain hub for high-value pharmaceutical products at Heathrow to cash in on the high-level of UK exports in this sector. The hub will feature three different temperature-controlled zones. Ulber says it is "small but sophisticated".
