Eminox allowed to authenticate LEZ equipment

18 March 2008

Operators that need to fit emissions control systems to comply with the London low-emission zone (LEZ) could now be able to do so more quickly because the largest equipment manufacturer has been given permission to authenticate the equipment.

Eminox has been granted authorised examiner status so it can conduct Reduced Pollution Certificate (RPC) and Low Emission Certificate (LEC) testing. Eminox says the advantage to operators  is that systems can now be fitted and tested in one stop.

Nick Fairholme, head of the LEZ, says: "It will reduce the amount of time that a vehicle needs to be taken off the road and provides a one-stop shop for operators to get their vehicles back in service as soon as possible."

It is unclear whether Vosa, which issues the emissions certificates, is happy that a manufacturer of emissions control systems is also allowed to officially test them. Nobody from Vosa was available for comment as CM went to press.
