Skills for Logistics (SfL) has welcomed the government's plan to scrap the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) by 2010. A new, smaller agency - the Skills Funding Agency - will replace the LSC and administer the flow of £4bn of public money each year to colleges and training organisations.
Dr Mick Jackson, SfL operations director, believes the move will not negatively affect the LSC's Train to Gain programme. "The changes could have a positive effect, but only if employers take up the offer for access to publicly funded qualifications," says Jackson. "If logistics employers fail to take up these offers, the money will instead go to sectors such as hairdressing, care and construction."
