Ten months on since the creation of moved4u, JDR Distribution claims its 24-hour delivery service is proving a hit. Launched last June as part of JDR's move away from haulage into consolidation and distribution, the service has already been used by the likes of Wincanton, DSV, Redhead International, Leach Distri-bution, Malcolm Logistics, Minor Weir and Willis, and the METSEC Group, claims moved4u managing director Jarrod Baughan.
The service offers ad-hoc, 24-hour deliveries into postcode areas ranging from north-west to south-east England and, according to Baughan, can offer established pallet network members a less rigid alternative option for some of their delivery schedules. He adds: "It is now generally accepted that we are not a pallet network, but a credible delivery gateway service, catering for any size and type of delivery.
"We are therefore attracting a lot of interest from a diverse range of transport businesses who are simply looking for better ways of fulfilling their delivery commitments, at the right time and at the right price." In October, moved4u secured new investment from a variety of sources, including the Department of Trade and Industry-backed Advantage Early Growth Fund, as well as a group of business angels from around the Midlands.
At the same time, Mike Piper, a former director of venture capital business 3i, became chairman. The firm is in talks with several potential new customers and turnover is set to rise from £5m to £8m this year. Baughan adds: "It is an exciting time for the business and we are really looking forward to the next few months."
