Unfair-dismissal claimant loses case against Ceva

04 April 2008

A claim for unfair dismissal by an employee at Ceva Logistics failed last Friday at Birmingham Employment Tribunal. Truck goods controller Lisel Amos of Stratford-Upon-Avon alleged she was subjected to humiliating sex discrimination and victimisation by employees at Ceva's Wellesbourne, Warwickshire depot.

She alleged that pornographic stickers were stuck on her back and that she was called abusive names and sworn at by other employees, including drivers. She also alleged that details  of her payslip were passed around the workforce and that the firm failed to carry out a proper investigation into her complaints. Amos was seeking compensation for constructive unfair dismissal after alleging that her treatment became so unbearable she was compelled to resign.

Ceva denied the allegations, opposed her claims and said it had a good reputation as an equal-opportunities employer. A Ceva spokesperson said: "In this case, the hearing concluded unanimously that the applicant's claim for constructive unfair dismissal had failed. "The investigation highlighted that Ceva's managers acted professionally and went to considerable lengths to ensure that the company's dignity at work policy was applied correctly."
