MRS Distribution acquires fellow Scottish firm JBT

09 April 2008

West Lothian-based MRS Distribution has acquired Aberdeen haulier Jim Brackenridge Transport (JBT) for an undisclosed sum. MRS has 80% of its business south of the border, whereas JBT has a strong presence in Scotland, being the main haulier to and from the Orkney and Shetland Islands, and distributing to the High-land and Grampian regions.

Ian Wilson, managing director of MRS, says he approached JBT as he had been looking for an acquisition that would strengthen the firm's Scottish position.  "The addition of JBT gives us comprehensive Scottish coverage," Wilson tells MT. "The JBT name will be retained and the intention is to grow the business, building on JBT's current strengths and its good name in Scotland."

Murray Prentice, former MD and 100% shareholder of JBT, will be retained during the initial period of the companies coming together. "Two months ago I had no inclination to sell," he says. "An approach was made and I could see the benefits for both companies." The combined turnover of the firms is in excess of £45m.
